Deep Seating Cushions

Deep seating cushions really began to grow in popularity in the last several years as more people wanted to create an outdoor living space as an extension of their home. Deep seating as a phrase simply refers to a style of furniture. Think of a lounge chair, loveseat or sofa that can only be comfortably used WITH cushions. Without cushions, the furniture is nothing more than a frame and in many cases, may not have anything other than a simple support structure for holding a cushion. The part of the frame that holds the seat cushion is very low to the ground. So if you sat in it without a cushion (assuming you could) you would be very low to the ground not to mention very uncomfortable.

For that reason, deep seating cushions are necessarily much thicker than normal seat cushions. Seats can range from 5" to 8" in thickness. The set may or may not have a back cushion, but usually does. Deep seating furniture is designed for maximum comfort and the cushion accomplishes 80% or more of that goal. WHAT you stuff or fill the cushion with makes all the difference. But the approach is dictated by the frame design. If it is a more traditional frame, you typically see less of the 'boxey' shaped cushions and more of the softer rounded edged seats with the backs sometimes made like one big throw pillow. The 'boxey' shaped versions are usually on the more contemporary designs with lots of straight lines.
