Church Pew Cushion FABRIC: It is important when selecting the right fabric for your church pew cushions. Depending on what color stain was used on your church pews, choosing the right shade/color of fabric is very important. We will be glad to assist you in making the right choice to ensure by making sure the color coordinates are in line.
Church Pew Cushion EDGE: Since most church pew cushions are just an extra long bench cushion, there are a few decisions that have to be made before ordering your church pew cushion. The type of cushion edge is important as well - deciding on standard boxed edge cushion, single cording cushion, or double cording cushion (most popular), depends on the overall décor level of your sanctuary.
Church Pew Cushion COMFORT: We highly recommend that the thickness of your cushions be no thicker than 4". Thickness is measured by putting the cushion flush on a flat surface and measuring from the surface to the highest point of the cushion. However, when choosing the right pew upholstery for your church, more than just color and comfort should be considered.
Pew Cushions - Styles and Options
Pew cushions can be attached or laid loosely on the seat. Loose bench cushions come in two styles: Classic and Stabilized Comfort. Whether attached or loose, all pew cushions can be customized to fit pews of any size or shape. Since most church pews will be longer than what our standard shapes may offer, we will need to quote you over the phone. Give us a call at 1-800-510-8325 and we’ll be glad to get you started. Here at Cushion Source, we specialize in Classic pew cushions, which are attached to the pew with a double sided Velcro tape. We do not offer attached or stabilized pew cushions.
Classic Pew Cushions are the oldest and most traditional style, having a decorative cord trim and buttons throughout the seat. These bench cushions are also the most expensive style. Although they look beautiful when first installed, classic pew cushions are the quickest to wrinkle and lose their shape. Unfortunately, they also tend to slide on the seat, eliminating any back support they once provided. Additionally, the buttons can scratch both people and church pews.
Stabilized Comfort Pew Cushions provide durable comfort and support. To make these, fabric is stretched by machine to a uniform tension while being secured around a pad and ¼ inch board. The uniform tension ensures that all fabric designs stay straight and the fabric resists wrinkles even under heavy use. The board is contoured and sized to fit the pew seat so the cushion will not slide. Unlike classic pew cushions, stabilized comfort pew cushions can also be attached to pews.
Attached Pew Cushions are built onto each pew, ensuring exact fit. Attached pew cushions are the most cost effective, especially for curved or radius pews. Additionally, they can be installed on the seat, seat back, and the back of the pew. However, because the fabric of attached cushions is stretched by hand, not by machine, the tension is not as uniform, so attached cushions are more likely to wrinkle than stabilized comfort cushions. And, unlike loose pew cushions, attached pew cushions are more difficult to replace and maintain.
