As online shopping becomes more popular, we’re all learning rapidly that what we see online on our computer screen is not always the same as what we may receive. We see warnings similar to this all the time: colors may be different due to computer screen inconsistencies. And it’s true – colors are different in person. But color is just one of the reasons it’s important to order fabric samples before buying custom cushions.
Fabric samples show texture, depth and color matching
Why you should bother with fabric samples? The reasons are simple: texture, depth and color matching. The color aspect is fairly self-explanatory. You don’t know how the fabric will look alongside your wall color, draperies or other design elements, until you see an actual swatch of the very fabric you’re considering.
A computer screen can only give you a two-dimensional view of the fabric, but we live in a 3D world. Experiencing all of the elements of the fabric — including color, texture and weight, is vitally important when deciding which fabric to use for your custom cushions. And since most cushions aren’t just for looks, you will want to know how the fabric feels. There is simply no easy or universally accurate way to describe the texture of a fabric. Sometimes, yousimply have to have a sample of that fabric in your hands.
Ordering fabric samples is simple. When viewing fabrics in the Cushion Source Fabric Gallery, click the “Sample” tab (circled in image shown below) at the top of the gallery. Then click “Add Sample to cart.”
A small investment in fabric samples will pay off
A few dollars spent on fabric samples will quickly pay off. The last thing you want is to purchase a custom cushion in a fabric you are less than sure of, whether it’s Sunbrella, Robert Allen or an unfamiliar brand. If you are debating on which fabrics to choose, you can contact our customer service department and ask for help choosing fabric swatches.
