How to Decorate with Hues of Orange

Orange can be such a dramatic color, so how do you use it for decorating? What colors do you pair it with?

One of my favorite things about Pantone is how they create exciting names for colors, such as Tiger Lily. Tiger Lily is described as “acknowledging a hipness of orange, with a touch of exoticism. With inspiration from the natural flower, this warm orange contains the very different red and yellow. One of these colors evokes power and passion while the other is hopeful. This combination creates a bold and rejuvenating color.” Of course, there are many shades of orange other than just Tiger Lily.

So how do you use a bright orange, like Tiger Lily, to decorate your home? For a more playful design, pair bright orange with other shades of bright colors, such as aqua and lime green. Have you seen our recent TV commercial? We created this pairing for a couple of scenes!

Another color to pair with is hot pink. Although, in some designs, it can be a bit feminine, when in the right area with the perfect amounts of the each color, it can make a bright, energizing space – especially outdoors! Here are two different examples I found on Houzz. One setting is heavier than the other, but they both work perfectly without being too girly.

Of course, with this bright orange you can decorate with the same hues, too. Recently, we added a new line of fabrics called PARA’ Tempotest. In this collection, there is a fabric called MB Sea Stripe Mango. This fabric provides a perfect example of using the a constant hue. With this fabric you could simply add some throw pillows to brighten up your space.

Of course, not everyone is going to like these bright, bold colors together. Adding hints of this bright color with neutrals can be just the right fit. While gray is always my personal go-to neutral, my favorite to pair with this orange is a traditional brown leather couch. Adding throw pillows, drapes, and other orange accents to your space makes it feel so comfy and welcoming.

While bright orange isn’t for everyone, a more peach shade of orange can create a fresh and comforting look, while still giving that pop. Peach will provide a much more relaxing vibe in your space.

Whether you are feeling that vibrant way of decorating, or a more muted approach, orange is a color you can’t beat when decorating. Check out our Color of the Month Pinterest board for more inspirational ideas!
