Creating an outdoor area that coordinates and makes sense to the eye is always easier when you start with a color theme. Themed outdoor rooms don’t have to be taken literally, although if you are looking for a whimsical approach it’s OK to have fabrics that reflect your theme. I firmly believe that your outdoor patio or deck furnishings don’t have to match perfectly; BUT if you are going for a cohesive and unified space, your outdoor cushions, drapes and pillow fabrics should coordinate well.<\/p>\n

Beach\/Nautical Color Theme<\/h2>\n

Here is one that I easily created.<\/p>\n

Summer is just around the corner and one of my favorite places to visit is the beach. The beach inspired me to make a nautical themed outdoor room. Most nautical items are usually related to the deep blue sea and all that goes with it; boats, blue water, fish, anchors, and so on.<\/p>\n

I chose a fun nautical themed outdoor room made with our Al Fresco, Outdura and Sunbrella outdoor fabrics!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

I first thought fabrics inspired by the sea. Navy blues and crisp whites, stripes and nautical items; all help to complete the look. I found this pretty Sunbrella Sapphire blue solid outdoor\/indoor fabric (1), along with our latest Al Fresco addition named Drop Anchors Royalty outdoor\/indoor fabric<\/a>. Both fabrics make a great pair but tying in the Outdura Bay Street Skipper striped outdoor\/indoor fabric, really completes the color theme look. I try to always allow for at least three coordinating fabrics when I’m designing anything. Another plus, all of these fabrics come with a 5-year warranty against fading and loss of strength. Perfect for the outdoors!<\/p>\n

Next, were my empty, uncomfortable chairs (2) that desperately needed some chair cushions. I chose the deluxe outdoor cushion in Sapphire Blue<\/a> with outdoor CumuPlush fill, wrapped in a batting to help create a loft effect to the chair cushion. The deluxe style cushions<\/a> are a great choice since they allow for easy drainage after a hard rain and dry quickly for less mildew growth. Got to love that!<\/p>\n

Next are your pillows<\/a> or accessory items. Cushion Source has many wonderful pillows to choose from. The tri-panel bolster<\/a> (3) is really a beauty. The designer duvet pillow<\/a> (4) is classic and very clever, especially with the coordinating fabrics I chose. Lastly, is the simple throw pillow<\/a> (5) with piping. These are a necessity in helping bring true cohesion to your outdoor space.<\/p>\n

Now you need to think about shade and ambiance. Umbrellas and outdoor draperies are a great way to provide shade to your outdoor area. <\/p>\n

I chose a beautiful (7) Alfresco fabric called Crabbin’ Royalty<\/a>. It has the perfect mix of modern and whimsy, AND a great way to finish off my outdoor space.<\/p>\n
