At Cushion Source, each and every cushion is designed to fit the dimensions our customers provide. Following are the steps we take to confirm the finished cushions meet your provided measurements.
Each style of cushion must be measured slightly differently. Locate your cushion style (standard, economical/pad, deluxe, tufted or trapezoid) in the list below.
Standard Cushions
Welting is not considered part of the cushion's dimensions. Measure inside of welting to get an accurate result.
- Depth (or Height on back cushions): Measure across the middle of the cushion, seam to seam.
- Width: Measure across the middle of the cushion, seam to seam.
- Thickness: Measure along the side of the cushion, seam to seam.
Economical Pads
Start at the nearest seam, and measure across the middle of the cushion to the opposite seam.
This measurement will include the banding (curve) of the side of the cushion.
- Depth (or Height on back cushions): Measure seam to seam, across the banding.
- Width: Measure seam to seam, across the banding.
- Thickness: Measure the height of the vertical seam ("dart") at the corner.
Deluxe Cushions
- Depth (or Height on back cushions): Measure seam to seam, across the raised loft (crowning effect) in the center of the cushion.
- Width: Measure seam to seam, across the raised loft (crowning effect) in the center of the cushion.
- Thickness: Measure seam to seam; do not include the raised loft/crown when measuring thickness.
Tufted Cushions
It is best to place a sturdy object, such as a box, on each end of the cushion to keep the cushion stationary while measuring.
- Depth (or Height on back cushions): Measure from plane to plane (from one side of the cushion to the other side), across the middle of the cushion's depth (or height).
- Width: Measure from plane to plane (from one side of the cushion to the other side), across the middle of the cushion's width.
- Thickness: This measurement will vary between 3.5" to 4.5" on all cushions, and can be measured along the dart on the corner of the cushion.
Trapezoid (such as Bay Window) Cushions
Do not measure trapezoid-shaped or bay window cushions' width in the center. Trapezoid-shaped cushions have different front and back width measurements and should be measured separately, as instructed below.
- Front Width: Measure the front width along the seam (inside the welting, if applicable).
- Back Width: Measure the back width along the seam (inside the welting, if applicable).
- Depth: Measure across the middle of the cushion, seam to seam.
- Thickness: Measure from seam to seam. If measuring a Deluxe-style cushion, do not measure the "raised loft."
